SE7EN
From the very first haunting scene of Se7en you know you are going to be shocked, scared, and enlightened. In director David Fincher's, beautifully shot and crafted thriller, the killer is set on acting out the seven deadly sins. The film's true power though, the power it reaches out upon you is that of it's mood. Each shot, is just dark enough so that you can see what is going on, but dark enough to scare you. That is of course for the last scene, which is shot without benefit of darkness and rain, which is used for irony.

The story centers around Detective David Mills, played at his best by Brad Pitt, who since this movie has not showed nearly enough depth as he does here. He is partnered up with the amazing Morgan Freeman, who plays a ready to retire, Detective Somerset. These two play cat and mouse with a psychotic killer, who maybe crazy but not stupid. The movie goes from murder to murder, each more frightening on it's own level. Even the sight of the deaths isn't what is the scariest part, it's the fact that there probably is someone out there like this. It's the mind that messes with you the most. I wouldn't spoil the movie for you, but it is no suprise that the killer in the movie is played by Kevin Spacey. He magnificently plays the genius psycho of the movie, and plays well with the admittedly minimal screen time he has with Pitt and Freeman. The movie will leave you with a understanding of the people around you, and creeped out. One thing is certain, you will know the seven deadly sins after this movie. I know I do. Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Pride, Envy, and Lust.
