James Cameron
The man has made only eight feature films, but is quite possibly one of the most imaginative and groundbreaking directors of his time. He is responsible for the biggest money-making film of all time, Titanic. He made a sequel that many consider better than original, Aliens. He has also made two of the greatest post-apocalyptic science-fiction movies of all time in the Terminator saga. He is James Cameron. Cameron started out working with Roger Corman on some B movies, which led to a stint directing Piranha 2 which was eventually re-directed by the producer. But that doesn't matter, because his next film was groundbreaking. He wrote and directed The Terminator, which catapulted the then virtually unknown Arnold Schwarzenegger (he has been in three Cameron movies). Terminator was modestly budgeted at around $6 million and ended up making six times that. His experience on that film helped land him the coveted gig of writing and directing the sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien. That film is widely considered better than the original. His next film was The Abyss, which although not a flop, was a disappointment at the box office. What was really impressive about the film though were the CGI special effects, which were unheard of at the time. He followed that up with a sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which is still one of the best science fiction films of all time. His biggest success though comes with Titanic, his 11 time Oscar winner, for Picture, Director, and more. The real question that is on everyone's mind though is: How does he follow that success up? Only time will tell.
