Jurassic Park 3
Starring: Sam Neill, Tea Leoni, William H. Macy, Alessandro Nivola, Michael Jeter
Directed By: Joe Johnston

The original Jurassic Park, which was in theaters eight years ago, blew audiences away, with state of the art special effects, that were perfectly complemented by Steven Spielberg's brilliant direction. It's sequel, The Lost World, had a been there done that feel to it, and the part where the T-Rex was brought into San Diego was ridiculous, even for Spielberg. I groaned when I heard Jurassic Park 3 was coming to screens. It's trailer grabbed my interest though and I headed to theaters with high expectations, maybe, I thought, a new director would liven the franchise up. I was pleasently surprised to find a damn entertaining movie. It brings a new dinosaur into the mix, the Spinosauraus, which puts the T-Rex to shame. The plot is thin, but let's face it, your not coming to see Masterpiece Theater here. It surrounds two parents (Macy and Leoni) who hire Alan Grant (Neill, returning from the first Jurassic) to help find their son who is lost on the island. The special effects showcase a largely noticeable difference from the original, and look unbelievabley real. I found myself trying to catch my breath between each action sequence, which got better and better. There are a few moments in the movie that are just very laughable, especially one in the plane, and you'll know what I'm talking about. But, it doesn't matter, cause Jurassic Park 3 is just good lighthearted fun. B+
