Man on the Moon
Starring: Jim Carrey, Danny DeVito, Courtney Love
Directed by: Milos Forman

Andy Kaufman had many alter egos, there was Tony Clifton, the lounge singer, there was Latka on "Taxi", there was Elvis, there was Andy the wrestler. Jim Carrey, is well to put it exactly truthfully is Andy Kaufman. He portrays Kaufman amazingly as both a comic genius and a guy searching for himself. The fact that Kaufman died at the age of 35, still disturbs some. It starts off with Andy's beginning roots in comedy with no luck and no hope. But with the help of George Shapiro, (DeVito), Andy climbs through the dirt and becomes a star. The point the movie is trying to make is that Kaufman, wanted to be famous, be it good or bad. His alter ego, Tony Clifton was bad famous, but recognized, his Latka was good famous. Andy's real person though is always trying to break through. To say that Jim Carrey gives an Oscar worthy performance is an understatement, Carrey better win that goddamned award or I'll flip out. He isn't playing Kaufman, he is Kaufman. Danny DeVito also gives an amazing performance, unfortunately though Courtney Love's role is very unsubstantial, she is only there as a scene chewer. The movie is funny, bittersweet, and one that should be seen. A
