Death To Smoochy
Starring: Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Catherine Keener, Danny DeVito, Jon Stewart
Directed By: Danny DeVito

Children’s television is shown in a whole new light when Danny DeVito explores it. Robin Williams gives quite possibly one of his best performances to date as Rainbow Randolph, the ex-host of a kids t.v. show that is fired after taking bribes. He is replaced by Smoochy, a purple rhino, who is all about kids, played by Edward Norton. The most amazing thing about this bitingly sarcastic film is that the performances stick, especially coming from Williams, who shows all the talent he has, and is great at it. No more Mr. Nice Guy, Robin Williams has single handedly saved himself, and it’s great to see him at the top of his game. Death To Smoochy is a hilarious film that is best when Williams is on screen. Believe me I never thought I’d say it, but the meanness exudes out of him, and you know that he has been dying for a role like this. Kids television will never look the same again once you’ve seen Smoochy. A-
